Years of being an Influencer: 3 years

1. What does success as an influencer look like to you?
To me, success as an influencer is not gauged by the number of followers or by the number of likes but by one’s ability to inspire others. As a style influencer, success to me is the ability to excite others to dress better by expressing themselves, so that it may bring some positive effect into their lives, however small it may be. So, every time I get a message from someone telling me how they are inspired by my posts, then that’s when I feel most successful in this endeavor.

2. Would you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert. Even as a child, I felt most alive when I interacted with others. I feel like I learn more from the different experiences of those who are around me, and feel that I, too, have some experiences to share. Plus, different people tend to differ in personality and it’s just a lot of fun knowing as many individuals that I can. Though this doesn’t mean that I don’t look forward to alone time every now and then.

3. How do you try and stand out from other people with similar followings?
I try to give my 110% in my work—that means being meticulous on each and every look that I want to showcase and on the look and quality of the photos themselves. And as an Instagrammer, I also curate my feed and keep it consistent when it comes to the overall look of it.

What makes you different?
As cliche as it sounds, I just try to be myself. I think everyone is already different in their own ways and it all boils down on how well you know yourself and how confident you are in what you know. When it comes to my style, I feel like I have developed a unique sense of style over the years and I just showcase more of that uniqueness in my posts.

4. Do you feel like blogging can provide you enough success to make a satisfactory living?
Of course. Everything can provide enough success to make a satisfactory living if you give your 110%.

5. Who do you look to for inspiration?
Not “who” but “what” ...and that’s Pinterest.

6. What’s the hardest thing about your job?
It’s different for everyone, really. Others might say taking photos regularly or following up a brand for the payment for a past project or whatnot but for me, it’s staying focused. The longer and more established you are in the business, the more invites you get to attend different events, parties, and whatnot. And personally, I try to go to as many of it as I can because I feel like it makes what I do more fun that way. But while fun, and amidst the chaos of rushing from one event to another, it has the tendency to make me forget the most basic in online influencing, which is posting consistently. Luckily, I realized that early on and remedied that by fixing my schedule, drafting my posts on the blog and on instagram at the beginning of the week and turning on my alarm clock to remind me to post them.

7. What’s your favorite image that you’ve ever taken?
I don’t know cause I just love a lot of them, most especially my travel photos because looking at them just transports me back to all those times when I am most carefree.

8. Where is the influencer landscape headed—will your job exist in 5 years?
I honestly believe that it will and will continue to develop more in different ways over the years. Before, there’s only blog sites but now there’s instagram and then the emergence of the so-called “vlogs.” Even right now, we see this progression in the development of different platforms for influencing like the Instagram TV, as the most recent example I could think of, and the platform where I see the most potential in becoming as the next big thing.

9. What has being an influencer done to your self image / self confidence?
Though I have always been confident in myself, I used to be wary in trying out a new style cause I'm not sure how people would react to it but now I learned to take the risk anyway and to trust in my belief that it's good. I realize it's one way to develop oneself and indirectly, to stay longer in this business.

10. If someone were starting out today, what advice would you give that person?
First, define what kind of blogger/influencer you are. Are you a fashion, travel, food, etc. blogger? Or maybe you’re a lifestyle blogger (which usually encompasses the 3)? It’s up to you, really, but you gotta stick to it once you made a decision or transition smoothly from one to another in case you change your mind. Second, have to have good photos or videos. That’s the first thing that people will see and the main reason why they would want to follow you in the first place. Third, post regularly. You want to reach as many potential followers as possible when you’re starting out and you don’t want to fade into the background once you’re established. Fourth, make friends with other influencers. They’ll push you to be better and to stay in the business for as long as possible. Fifth, be professional and keep a good relationship with brands and PRs once you started getting sponsors and event invites. After all, blogging is business and they are your investors. Sixth, be good and interact with your followers. They are your customers. And seventh, just have fun!
